Our paediatric dental services

FIRST VISITS & CHECKUPS

We make your child’s first dental visits positive and fun. At these visits your child will have a full specialist assessment. We will assess risk factors for decay, discuss growth and development and any contributing habits. Where appropriate we will take dental x-rays and where tolerated we will give oral hygiene instructions and polish your child’s teeth.

FILLINGS AND CROWNS

Sometimes, despite our best efforts, children can develop tooth decay or damage. At Toothbuds, we use tooth-coloured fillings to repair small cavities and restore the tooth’s natural shape and function. For larger areas of decay or weakened teeth, we may recommend a paediatric crown - a strong, protective covering that helps preserve the tooth until it’s ready to naturally fall out.

EMERGENCY SERVICES

Dental emergencies can happen at any time—whether it’s a painful toothache, a knocked-out tooth, or an injury to the mouth. At Toothbuds, we provide timely care for children when they need it most, ensuring they are comfortable and safe as quickly as possible. In some cases your child may need immediate attention in these cases our reception staff will help point you in the right direction.

PREVENTATIVE CARE

Preventive care is at the heart of what we do at Toothbuds. It means protecting your child’s teeth and gums before problems develop. Preventive dentistry includes regular check-ups, professional cleans, fluoride applications, fissure sealants, and tailored advice on brushing, diet, and oral hygiene.

GENERAL ANAESTHETIC

In some cases, children may need their dental treatment completed under a general anaesthetic (GA). This means your child is fully asleep in a hospital setting while we carry out the necessary dental work safely and comfortably. At Toothbuds, these procedures are performed at Quay Park Surgical Centre with a specialist paediatric anaesthetist and highly trained medical team.

SEDATION

At Toothbuds, we understand that some older children can still feel especially nervous about dental treatment. For older (at least school age) children who may need extractions or a single procedure to be completed, conscious sedation may be an alternative to a General Anaesthetic.  In some specific cases sedation is a safe and effective way to help children relax during their dental care.

DENTAL TRAUMA

Children are active and adventurous, and sometimes accidents happen. Dental trauma refers to any injury to the teeth, gums, or mouth such as chipped, broken, or knocked-out teeth. These injuries can involve both baby teeth and permanent teeth, and they often require prompt specialist attention.

GROWTH & DEVELOPMENT

Children’s mouths are constantly changing as they grow. From the first baby teeth to the arrival of permanent teeth, and the way the jaws and bite develop, every stage plays a role in your child’s overall oral health. At Toothbuds we monitor these changes closely to make sure everything is on track and to pick up any concerns early.

What our patients say

“Thanks to you, Eddie absolutely loves going to the dentist and often begs to come see you — this says everything about the way you’ve connected with him and made every visit such a positive experience.”

“I visited Katie with my son for a routine check up. Her ability to examine a 3 year old boy and keep him completely calm and happy was incredible. He didn’t cry or complain or even try to get out of the chair. She diagnosed a problem with one of his teeth that had been traumatised by a fall. Thankfully she recognised that the baby tooth needed to be removed as it was affecting his adult tooth development and she promptly arranged this to be done. Katie has excellent clinical skills and is amazing with children. I am very grateful for her care and expertise and couldn’t recommend her highly enough!”
